Description

Of course part of the creative process for me is always having music on in the background. It's NEVER if rarely, off ;) - www.youtube.com/watch?v=a0rPn7…

A basic tutorial on the background painting process for Galaxy Magnolia comic pages. One key point that I sometimes create props to use for for future images. Props can be any sort of object that would have its own file, then copied, and placed on its own layer in photoshop within the comic page. For example, the planet (it's not Earth) is a prop. I painted the planet in its own file from the foundation up, and have used it before in other GM images. The shuttle however, isn't a prop in its own file. I painted it directly onto the page, and the shuttle consists of six layers. Haha, yeah something small like that has an extensive process :P. I can merge the layers however later if I need, and use for a future prop. Another point is to use, and to also make custom brushes that you would use for particular scenes. Brushes, especially with texture are a great way to build up a scene, and you just have to know how to toggle the different brush presets to set it to a way you would like to use. I'm really rusty at this tutorial thing, but hopefully this helps give people some idea on the process. So yeah, I'm working on the next page of GM =D. Stay tuned!

Thanks for posting this! It's always interesting to see how you create your pieces, especially the lighting.
